How is Cloud Gate Different?
At Cloud Gate, we are more than just acupuncture.
We offer our patients much more than just 30 – 45 minutes of needles in a comfortable room. Our treatment times run about 60 - 90 minutes (we offer standard and extended treatments), and your practitioner is with you for the entirety of your treatment.
We believe that the effectiveness of your treatment is enhanced by the presence of your practitioner. Depending on your condition, we will usually begin your treatment with Chinese massage, or tuina, followed by the insertion of acupuncture needles.
While your needles are in, we then do CranioSacral Therapy. All of these therapies combined produce amazing results. Please see our services page for more information.
Because we do more than just acupuncture, we are able to work with those that have anxiety and fear around needles but who still would like the health and treatment benefits of Chinese Medicine. We can apply the principles of Chinese Medicine to treat you, all without needles or with minimal needle use.
Cloud Gate also offers classes based on ancient Chinese secrets of health, wellbeing and long life. These classes include different exercises based on the Chinese medicine therapy called Qi Gong.
These classes can enhance the effectiveness of your treatment and also promote general wellbeing for those people who would like to learn more about preventing illness and reducing pain.
From our treatments to the classes that we offer, Cloud Gate is indeed more than just your typical acupuncture clinic.
We are a Chinese Medicine resource center for the Broomfield, Westminster, Boulder and greater north Denver area.
Does Acupuncture Hurt?
In general, no, acupuncture does not hurt. There can be a brief prick while the needle is inserted. After the needle is inserted, usually people cannot even feel the needles. Often there is a dull, achy, or heavy sensation at the needle site – this is a positive sign that energy is moving.
Most people – especially those who have a fear of needles – are surprised at how comfortable they feel once the needles are in.
Is Acupuncture Safe?
Yes, if performed by a licensed and competent acupuncturist, acupuncture is extremely safe and effective. Acupuncture is safely used by millions of Americans each year.
Acupuncturists are required to use only pre-sterilized, disposable, and single-use needles. The needles used by acupuncturists are FDA-approved.
What will a treatment be like?
• A thorough Chinese Medicine health evaluation – this is a time when your practitioner will ask you many questions about your health and lifestyle. For your initial visit, this health evaluation will take about 30 minutes.
• Your treatment – your total treatment time for your initial visit (including your health evaluation) will usually last about 90 minutes. Follow-up visits usually last about 60 – 75 minutes. Your treatment can include many of the types of therapies we offer at Cloud Gate – including acupuncture, Chinese massage, CranioSacral therapy, and others.
• Recommendations – if applicable, your practitioner will go over any dietary and lifestyle recommendations with you. He or she may also give you a few exercises to do at home (homework!) to enhance your treatment, speed your recovery, or promote wellbeing.
• Chinese herbs – your practitioner may decide to recommend Chinese herbal therapy as an addition to your treatment plan. At Cloud Gate, we carry Classical Pearls Chinese herbal formulas.
Classical Pearls insures the safety of their products through rigorous testing for heavy metals, pesticides, and microbes. Their products are independently tested in a US laboratory. Classical Pearls are also manufactured in a certified GMP facility and are free of dyes, preservatives, pharmaceuticals, yeasts and sugars.
• Treatment Plan – your practitioner will work with you to develop a treatment plan that fits your schedule and budget. Usually given to you on your second visit, your treatment plan will outline goals, number of treatments, and any exercises, lifestyle and dietary recommendations for you to follow.

How many treatments will I need?
This is a tricky question – each person will respond a little differently to acupuncture and Chinese medicine. How many treatments you may need depends on your condition(s), how you respond to the treatment, and if you follow the exercise and lifestyle recommendations.
Some people respond after a single treatment. Others see a difference in a few treatments. For acute conditions, 1 – 3 treatments may be sufficient. For chronic conditions, usually more treatments (5 – 9) are generally advised. Also, people who are interested in wellness and prevention come in for a treatment about once a month.
Again, if you would like to talk with us about your specific health concerns and how many treatments you may need – we offer free 30-minute consultations.
