Tui Na (Chinese Massage)

Tui Na (twee-nah) means "pushing grasping." It is a powerful form of Chinese medical bodywork that is based on the same Oriental medical principles as acupuncture.

Tui Na seeks to improve the flow of qi through the meridian channels and is particularly effective for conditions involving muscles, tendons and joints, such as structural misalignment, orthopedic problems and sports injuries. It can also be used to treat internal diseases.

Because of the cultural climate in which tuina was developed, all of our techniques are designed and actually work better when the patient is fully clothed.

That is why we ask our patients to wear comfortable clothes for their treatments. We want you to be as comfortable as possible throughout your entire treatment.

Feedback is strongly encouraged, and if at any point you feel discomfort, just let us know. We are here to work with you during your treatment and would like for you to feel as safe and relaxed as possible.

The Cloud Gate Tui Na Lineage

Our lineage of Tui Na is known as Jin Shou Tui Na, which means 'golden hand Tui Na.' It was named in honor of Master Hsu Hong-Chi, who transmitted this system of medicine to the North American Tang Shou Tao Association (NATSTA). In Taiwan, Master Hsu was called Jin Shou by the people that came to him for treatment because his Tui Na skill was so renowned.

At Cloud Gate, our Tui Na is used as an important part of our Chinese Medicine treatments. We consider it to be as important a therapy as acupuncture. When used together, Tui Na and acupuncture are a very effective combination for treatment.

Gretchen Belenchia, LAc and Joshua Schneider, LAc are both Certified Practitioners of Jin Shou Tui Na through the American Organization of Bodywork Therapies of Asia (AOBTA).

They have completed a rigorous apprenticeship in Tui Na in addition to the usual semister of Tui Na that most students of Chinese Medicine receive.

This apprenticship program consisted of over 600 hours of training, including 300 hours of supervised clinical experience.
